Karen Jang
Karen Jang is a 3rd-year undergraduate student at Barnard College of Columbia University, where she studies biochemistry, music, and english. Karen takes classical violin lessons at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM), where she participates in the Barnard-MSM Lesson Exchange Program after auditioning. She also plays in the Columbia University Orchestra, and won the CU Dolan Prize (music scholarship) in her first year. She has played the violin since she was 5 years old and attended the MSM Precollege Program throughout high school, along with music festivals such as The BU Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Orchestra. She has won awards at competitions including 1st place at the New York International Music Concours competition. Throughout high school, Karen volunteered at the NYP Columbia Hospital, where she played violin for patients and healthcare professionals. Karen is excited to be part of VBC, where she is involved with outreach efforts and music therapy conferences, to connect with healthcare professionals, patients, and their families through music during the pandemic and through Zoom.
